This summer, I will not have a cool internship.
Nor will I travel, do Duke Engage or even have a really boring
internship that will get me connections or a job for next year. I will
be working as a waitress to earn enough money to finish my senior
year. It sucks that my family really does need me to do this to help
out, but I will never get financial aid. I shouldn't have to limit my
experiences because of money, but I feel that so many of the unique
opportunities Duke offers require your family to have lots of extra
money to spend.

I totally understand. I really hate how Duke advertises that there are so many great opportunities and 'financial aid' carries over, but what if you're not on financial aid and what if your parents aren't willing to pay one penny?

Me too. Down to a T.

Me too. Why is it that I have to work myself to death with a campus job during the semester while overloading (to graduate eary), just because my parents can't afford for me not to? Sometimes I feel like no one understands--especially not those kids who seem to have unlimited bank accounts and consistently take 4 easy classes. And for all of this, I'm not respected for managing my time well, but accused of shortchanging myself of the "Duke Experience".
